A/N: I only listen to oldies when I listen to the radio. This was honest to goodness the next song that came on. *g*

The roller-coaster ride we took is nearly at an end
I bought my ticket with my tears, that's all I'm gonna spend

Blair sat in the front car alone as it hovered at the apex. He hazarded a glance over his shoulder at the empty cars behind him. A sad smile clouded his features as he gazed back over the twists and turns and ups and downs of the past few years and warm teardrops trailed down his cheeks. He sighed as he felt the emptiness beside him.
He'd never ridden alone before.
Jim had always been there to tighten his seatbelt, to secure the harness, his blue eyes crinkling in amusement as they both flung their arms into the air.
A soft breeze full of regrets and recrimination swirled around him, tugging at his curls as fresh tears stung his eyes. He'd chosen to ride alone this time. He knew the ride was going to come to a screeching halt as it piled head-on into the mess he'd created.
He closed his eyes and murmured a quiet entreaty to whatever deity might be inclined to watch over foolhardy guides and anal-retentive sentinels. With a deep cleansing breath, he opened his eyes.
He peered out over the edge of forever and shed one last tear.

At the bottom of the dizzying drop, not visible from the precipice, the Sentinel waited.
